Description and composition of the product

Sapropels are centuries-old bottom sediments of freshwater water reservoirs formed from the remains of aquatic vegetation, living organisms and soil.

Extraction of the sapropel is ecologically safe, allows avoiding the reservoir silting and contributes to its rejuvenation.

Total reserves of sapropel in Belarus exceed 4 billion m3 or 1.6 billion tons with a moisture content of 60%. The main deposits are located in Brest, Grodno and Vitebsk regions.

The sapropel formation is influenced by biochemical, microbiological and mechanical processes and is a complex organic and mineral combination of substances.

Sapropel has two main components interacting with each other:

  • Organic

  • Mineral

Sapropel for oil industry

Sapropel as the main component of drilling fluids

Sapropel has proven itself as one of the most effective components for the preparation of drilling fluids.

The unique technology of structural modification of sapropel during its drying, developed by Ferment LLC, allows to obtain products for high quality drilling fluids that satisfy not only the drilling conditions, but also the uncovering of producing horizons.

Fine-grained sapropel significantly improves the filtration and structural-rheological properties of drilling fluids compared to clay powders of expensive brands.

Advantages of sapropel for drilling fluids

  • The formation of a homogeneous colloid-dispersed structure of drilling fluids.

  • High aggregative stability of sapropels dispersions in water.

Characteristics of sapropel-based drilling fluids

  • Composition suitable for use in all types and intervals of drilling in various geological conditions

  • Reduced abrasive wear on drilling tools

  • Elimination of the cost of expensive specialised clay

  • No need to use lubricants

  • Improving conditions for conducting geophysical research in the well

  • Absolute ecological cleanliness of the product with the possibility of unrestricted discharge of waste drilling fluid without harming the environment and producing horizons

Eco-sorbents and soil ameliorants in areas of spillage of oil and oil products

Processes associated with the extraction, transportation, processing and use of crude oil pose a serious threat to the environment.

The most urgent and challenging task is not just the elimination of soil pollution by oil products, but also its introduction to agricultural operation in the shortest possible time.

The most promising solution to this task is the use of a complex preparation based on a natural ameliorant and effective oil-oxidizing microorganisms.

The degree of destruction of petroleum products in the soil in 3 months is more than 92%.

This technology can be applied to the destruction of a wide range of pollutants, converting them into carbon dioxide and environmentally friendly products.

The following substances can act as contaminants:

  • petroleum and petroleum products;

  • aromatic hydrocarbons (benzene, toluene, xylene);

  • aldehydes (formaldehyde, acetaldehyde);

  • alcohols (methanol, glycerin);

etc.

A special technology for obtaining structured sapropel during drying, developed by Ferment LLC, opened up the possibility to use it as an effective ameliorative carrier for immobilised oil destructor bacteria.

Advantages of sapropel as ameliorative carrier
  • Eco-sorbent: combination of functions of a natural soil ameliorant and an effective sorbent of oil products.
  • Synergism. Significant increase in the activity of oil-oxidizing microorganisms due to the rich macro-micronutrient composition of sapropel.
Advantages of the sapropel-based eco sorbent

  • Environmentally friendly and effective product (the degree of oil destruction and its derivatives up to 92%)

  • Wide range of organic contaminants

  • Collection and transportation of the used product is not required

  • Complex effect: increasing the fertility of depleted soils and effective destruction of oil spills in the area of emergency leakage.

Ecological sorbents based on natural sapropel for complex treatment of water and surface of contaminated soils from petroleum products and their derivatives

Sapropel sorbents for collection of oil and petroleum processing products in waste water and at treatment facilities, oil bases, maintenance stations and gas stations.

Natural fossil SAPROPEL has high sorption properties with regard to various compounds. Large share of humic substances determines high capacity of cationic exchange, which provides perfect sorption qualities with regard to heavy metals and organic contaminants.

Special treatment of natural sapropel provides it with new technological qualities making complex agents based on it easy to use and effective for the man-made pollution area cleaning.

Ferment offers complex sorbents based on prepared sapropel in combination with other natural components of organic nature in several preparative forms - granules, tablets and loose powder.

For use in the treatment of waste water at gas stations, maintenance stations, motor transport enterprises and oil depots, SORBENT (in the form of tablets or granules) is placed in cassette filters at the last stage of treatment facilities.

The degree of wastewater treatment reaches 98%.

SORBENT in the form of loose uniform treated powder is used for elimination of emergency spills of oil on the surface of water bodies and land, for treatment of surface and drain waters from surface-accumulated petroleum products.

Suggested sorbents for complex treatment of water and soil surface from petroleum products and heavy metals are cost-effective, efficient and environmentally safe.
