Prior to, during the oestrum and lactation, mink, foxes and polar foxes loose 25 to 30% of body weight. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure restitution of normal condition factor in mature animals during the season of rest and preparation of the herd to a new reproductive period.

Mature female animals are often depleted at the end of lactation. In order to secure the preparation to oestrum, they are given high-energy nutritional feed. A good sign of proper feeding is the development of fur. With normal feeding, summer coat of animals is completely replaced with winter one within the established term.

Animals usually have decreased appetite during the oestrum. Female animals are to be fed with a feed mixture of the same composition as during the last months prior to the oestrum. Male animals have increased carving for protein due to elevated semen production; therefore, the most active animals are given a protein additive.

During pregnancy, it is especially important to secure the need of the female animals in vitamins. Deficit of any vitamin may lead to undesired consequences. A mandatory condition when feeding the pregnant female animals is that the protein part of the diet has to be balanced. Extensive feeding of the pregnant female animals during the second half of their pregnancy causes obesity which may lead to decrease in the reproduction parameters. Violation of these rules causes mass abortions and unhappy pathologic delivery.

Keeping the crop and its development in the first 3 to 4 weeks of life completely depend on the milking capacity of the females. To provide their high milking capacity, heavy feeding with high-nutrition energy feed is necessary. The females consume 2 to 3 times more feed during lactation compared to the season of rest. Therefore, the mixtures are to be of low volume, highly digestible and contain all the necessary nutrients. Feed for females is to be more liquid so that the puppies could better eat it during the first time.

Possible issues

  • Post-lactation depletion of females.

  • Unsatisfactory preparation of animals to reproduction with low condition factor.

  • Feed hypovitaminoses expressed in the birth of puppies with signs of red paws and badly developed brightened indumentum.

  • Birth of small puppies under general insufficient feeding of female animals or deficit of complete protein.

  • Birth of too big puppies (difficult delivery) related to overfeeding of the female animals, especially during the second half of pregnancy.

  • Low milking capacity of the females and death of puppies.

Solution in feeding optimisation

  • FEKORD-2012-F is a universal enzyme biocomplex able to destroy major antinutrients and increase feed digestion (energy, protein, amino acids, phosphorus, etc.) It is used to optimize the gastrointestinal digestion when using plant-based feeds. To be used with complete food at a dose of 1 kg per ton.

  • DIATOKS-ULTRA is a mycotoxins sorbent (yeast cell walls, activated sapropel, calcium carbonate) providing a high level of protection against mycotoxins and opportunistic pathogenic microflora. To be used with complete food at a dose of 1 to 2 kg per ton.

  • TETRABIOTIC-SPK is a probiotic (Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus licheniformis и Enterococcus faecallis). It is used for digestion optimisation, prophylaxis of gastrointestinal diseases, partly replaces antibiotics. To be applied with complete food at a dose of 0,5 kg per ton.
